DIY projects during COVID19 have become very popular over the last few weeks. All the little projects you wish you had time for are actually getting done! The question is… will these projects actually add value to your home when it comes time to sell?
We’ll break it down for you, starting with…
PAINT!
Got any vibrant purple or yellow walls lingering from the ’90s that you’ve meant to update? Now’s the perfect time to rejuvenate those spaces! When it comes to home showings, intensely colored walls can be a stumbling block for potential buyers. Despite being a straightforward fix, loud colors often overshadow the home’s potential. Opting for light, neutral tones can make any room feel more spacious and inviting. So, it’s time to set up your ladder, shift your furniture, and head over to Cloverdale Paint for some contemporary off-white or light gray shades that are all the rage on home improvement shows. You’ll be amazed by the transformation!
Some of our favorite neutral paint colors are…

Front Door
This is probably the most overlooked area when you think of doing some DIY projects to your home. Think about it. In life, we are always told and taught that first impressions are important. So, what is the first thing someone sees when they come to your home? Your front door! So let’s get into how you can give your front entryway the show-stopping refresh you never thought about doing!
Let’s start with the front door… This is the perfect place to add a splash of color, or a dark moody color. Maybe you have some paint in the garage or have been wanting to dip your feet into the DIY project scene. This is the perfect place to start.
Accent your freshly painted with some greenery like a beautiful green eucalyptus wreath or add 2 tall planter boxes for both sides of your front door or maybe a cute door decal.
Change out your dated address numbers to something more modern like these!
Change out that old front door mat to something simple chic or even cheeky!
These few simple changes will give your front entry that welcoming look you may have never knew you need!
I know what your thinking… “Really? Painting my front door will add value to my home..?” Of course, the answer isn’t black and white.. and if you spend $200 on getting some paint, brushes, and decor your value won’t go up by X% but trust me! It will make your home feel more inviting and homey. Did you know most people do a driveby of the home before they see it? Just from their car, they drive past and think could we live here… so make that first impression a memorable one!
Extra Step: Now open that front door and have a look at your entryway! Is it a pile of shoes and jackets? Can you barely open your entry closet? Good thing IKEA is delivering or you can spend hours search Wayfair for the perfect entryway storage. But we will go over all this in our organizing blog later! So stay tuned.
Finish all those unfinished projects!!!
You all know what I’m talking about with this one… I’m sure a handful of you all reading this have started some sort of reno on your home and it just has a little left to finish it. We see it all the time when viewing homes with our clients. Maybe you added crown moulding or replaced all your baseboards and window cases but it still needs that final coat of paint! GO, DO IT… NOW!
There is nothing worse than looking at homes and noticing all the little things that never got finished. It may not seem like a big deal but as a new homeowner your list of to-dos is already so long don’t make them clean up your mess.
This point should have been #1 but that really no fun.
Garden/Landscaping
Whether it’s your front or back yard its that time of year to get things cleaned up. With a majority of our population working from home and having more time on their hands, now is the time to keep busy outside and clean up the garden bed that may have gotten a little out of hand over the last few years.
Here is a list of our favorite local nurseries who can help you with all your garden needs.
Stay safe and healthy.
