Easter Long Weekend Activities For Families

Kim PhillipsCommunity

We absolutely love Easter! It falls at a perfect time when the weather starts to warm up, the birds are singing, and gardens are beginning to bloom. Here is Surrey, we have an abundance of cherry blossom trees that are starting to flower. There is nothing quite like spring in the Lower Mainland! It is truly a delightful time of year.

If you’re looking for something to do this long weekend, we have a list of safe and family friendly activities you may want to check out. With the recent safety protocols put in place, it is important that we all do our part and stick close to home and avoid indoor gatherings. Our list includes activities that are not only fun, but also in line with the new regulations.

Plan an Easter Egg Hunt

Set up your yard for an Easter Egg hunt. This classic Easter activity never fails to disappoint! You’ll enjoy watching the kids run around as much as they enjoy finding the chocolates. Considering mixing in non-candy items into your hunt. Maybe have the kids find a puzzle, board game or other hands-on activity that you can do as a family over the weekend.

Enjoy The Cherry Blossoms

Cherry Blossoms aren’t just in Surrey, you can find them all over Metro Vancouver. There are so many spots to check out the Cherry Blossoms and snap some great photos for Instagram.

In Burnaby, you can find them in Central Park, Metrotown and Burnaby Mountain. In New Westminster, you can find them in Queens Park and the Quay (Also a great place for a family walk along the water!) In Richmond, you can find them in Garry Point Park and Larry Berg Flight Park. If you’re in Surrey, some great places to check out the Cherry Blossoms is in Bear Creek Park and Crescent Beach.

Support a Local Restaurant

This weekend, consider ordering take out from a local and independent restaurant or coffee shop in your community. Since indoor dining has been postponed and likely patios will be very busy, ordering take out is a great way to go! The Lower Mainland has so many beautiful parks where you can enjoy a picnic or coffee with your family. Check out this list of stunning parks to visit this spring, Click Here.

Try a New Easter Recipe

Why not spend some time in the kitchen as a family? Here are some great recipes to try from two of our favourite local bakers, Mini Egg Chocolate Pie with Chocolate Cookie Crust from Kelsey The Farmer’s Daughter in Abbotsford or how about Chewy Mini Egg Cookies from The Sweet & Simple Kitchen.

Plan an Easter Movie Night

Stream some family friendly movies at home, HOP or Peter Rabbit are a couple great options. Pop some popcorn and for some extra fun, mix in a few mini eggs! Make movie night extra special by hanging up some string lights or setting up a blanket fort. There’s something so special about making meaningful memories at home!

We hope that you found this list informative and that you have a great long weekend with your household!

Happy Easter!
