When it comes to moving, preparation is key. As realtors, we can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard clients say “We didn’t realize how much stuff we had until we started packing”. The best way to avoid stress on moving day is to start early and have a plan in place. Here are some of our top tips to prepare for your move!

Donate, Sell or Throw Away Anything You’re Not Moving:

If you’re not planning on taking it with you, make a plan early to dispose of it in the most responsible way. Decluttering and getting rid of things you no longer need some be something you should do very early on in the moving process.

Start The Packing Process Early:

We want your home to shine! When it comes to showing your property, our goal is to have it as clean and decluttered as possible. This helps potential buyers see the home in the best light and envision it as their own. Start packing anything away that you don’t use on a day-to-day basis. You should start doing this even before your home is photographed and hits the market. By starting the packing process early, you’ll feel less overwhelmed as your moving day approaches.

Book Your Movers Early:

Moving companies can book up quickly! Especially in the busy Fraser Valley real estate market. Once your property is officially sold or your purchase is finalized, it’s time to book your movers. Make sure you will have someone on site to direct the movers on moving day. While you won’t have to lift or move anything, they will need someone to direct them on furniture placement and any other questions they may have.

Pack Your Valuables Separately:

Make sure you pack all your family heirlooms, photos, jewelry, passports, documents and any other important items separately. Move these yourself and take them with you in your personal vehicle. This is just a safeguard so you know where everything is in case you need it.

Pack A Bag Of Essentials For Moving Day:

It’s always a good idea to have a moving day bag in your car. Here are some suggestions on what to include: Snacks, bottled water, bathroom essentials, some cleaning supplies, a fresh change of clothes and any other personal items you may need.
