Every neighborhood in the Lower Mainland has its own unique feel and local points of interest. When you move to a new community, you may be looking for simple ways to get settled in and acclimatize yourself with the area around your home.
After you’ve spent a couple days unpacking and your home is more or less set up, take some time to explore your new neighborhood on foot. Go for a walk around the area and check out the local amenities. You’ll be surprised at the hidden gems available nearby!
You may also want to stop by and introduce yourself to your surrounding neighbors. If you’re not comfortable going door knocking, look to social media for ways to connect with people who live locally. Facebook has many neighborhood community groups. This is an easy way to interact online with people who live in your surrounding area.
If you’re moving with kids, there are several ways you can help them to meet other kids in the local community. One of the easiest ways is to take your kids to a local park or play area. This way they can meet other kids naturally. If you like in a cul-de-sac, you can also sit outside and let your kids play at the front of the house. This is a great way for you and your kids to potentially meet your neighbors.
If your local area has a community centre, you may want to consider taking your kids there and signing them up for a class that interests them. You may want to sign yourself up for a class at the same time! Community centers are an excellent place to interact with other families.
